MTh –Year 3 Deacon Intern
Iain McAleavey
During my placement, I was serving in the Diocese of Egypt. I was based in Cairo, and was ministering amongst the Arabic–speaking and English–speaking congregations.
I was able to go and visit some young people in old Cairo, to share my faith and experience with them, and to share the hope of the Gospel that is Christ Jesus, our ‘true love’.
I spent some time with the clergy at their conference, and was able to share my experiences and learn much more as well.
I was filled with hope at the churches striving for justice, their creativity in mission, the hope that they had, and the joy they had in sharing the good news of Christ in their context.
I was inspired by how they operate a pattern of collegiality in ecumenism that leads to sharing the knowledge that each person brings from their shared experience. We can learn from each other, we can work together, and we can grow together. We share the same hope.
