New semester begins with a family–friendly weekend
The new and returning students were welcomed by the Director of the Institute, the Revd Dr Maurice Elliott.
This year’s full–time student body on the MTh course includes seven intern deacons in Year III, ten continuing students in Year II, and 13 new students in Year I; there are 15 part–time students on the MTh course; and four further students are transferring from the NSM ministry to full–time ministry.
During the introductory weekend, the new students also visited Trinity College Dublin with Dr Katie Heffelfinger and the Revd Patrick McGlinchey.
Two fun days were also organised for family members and children.
On the Saturday afternoon, the part–time students took part in a field trip with Canon Patrick Comerford who introduced them to the Liturgy module and the Church History elective with visits to two inner–city churches in Dublin – Christ Church Cathedral and CORE in Thomas Street – to see how traditional “sacred space” has been adapted in different ways for today’s liturgical and worship needs.
The Year III students ordained to the diaconate at the beginning of the new semester are: the Revd Andrew Campbell (Connor), the Revd Rob Clements (Dublin and Glendalough), the Revd Colin Darling (Down and Dromore), the Revd Rosemary Diffin (Armagh), the Revd Edna Wakely (Dublin and Glendalough), the Revd David White (Dublin and Glendalough, now in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare) and the Revd John Woods (Clogher, now in the Diocese of Kilmore).
The new Senior Student is Roderick Smyth, a Year II student from the Diocese of Down and Dromore.
