Hong Kong college principal meets CITI staff and students
The Principal of Ming Hua Theological College, Hong Kong, Dr Gareth Jones, recently visited the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, where he met faculty members and students and preached at the Community Eucharist in the Institute Chapel.
Dr Jones, who was visiting Dublin at the invitation of the Dublin University Far Eastern Mission, also spoke at the Dublin and Glendalough Diocesan Synods.
In their conversations, Dr Jones and the Director of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, the Revd Dr Maurice Elliott, explored areas of future co–operation between the two theological colleges, including:
- A student exchange programme, with the possibility of a first year student visit in 2013
- Reciprocal staff visits to share initially learning insights from the introduction and implementation of the MTh course and other programmes
- Future joint student visits to other centres of Anglican mission and ministry
Dr Elliot and Dr Jones also discussed exploring the possibility of a programme in the Dublin and Glendalough for former students in the early years of ministry (this is a diocesan and not a CITI matter) and the possible participation of an observer from Ming Hua in the continuing conversations on diaconal ministry the Church of Ireland is taking part in within the Porvoo Communion.
Ming Hua is the theological college of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, the Church of the Province of Hong Kong and Macau in the Anglican Communion. The college has been serving the Church for more than 60 years.
