CITI director visits theological college and church in Hong Kong
The Director of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, the Revd Dr Maurice Elliott, recently visited Ming Hua Theological College, the Anglican theological college in Hong Kong.
During his visit, Dr Elliott, delivered a public lecture, led a student retreat, addressed gathering of the provincial clergy of the three dioceses in the Anglican Church of Hong Kong, addressed a number of gatherings and meetings throughout Hong Kong, and visited Saint John’s Cathedral.
Dr Elliott’s visit follows a visit to CITI last year by the Principal of Ming Hua, Dr Gareth Jones, who also spoke at the Dublin and Glendalough Diocesan Synod.
Ming Hua Theological College, named after Bishop Ronald Owen Hall, was founded in 1947 for training priests for full–time ministry. Today Ming Hua is the Provincial training centre for clergy and laity.
The Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong, the Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwong, who is Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, is visiting the Church of Ireland Theological Institute and the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in October. Bishop Paul Kwong.
At the end of the 2012–2013 academic year, CITI student Abigail Sines visited Hong Kong on a placement that was facilitated by the Dublin University Far Eastern Mission.
The Anglican Church in Hong Kong and Macao, also known as the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (SKH), is the 38th Province of the Anglican Communion and one of the major denominations in Hong Kong. The Church has three dioceses: Hong Kong Diocese, Eastern Kowloon and Western Kowloon, with a fourth missionary area in Macao.
