Diocesan Reader Annual retreat, 2014
According to the Church of Ireland Directory, there are approximately 350 Diocesan Readers across the Church of Ireland serving currently, quite a workforce it could be argued.
With this target group in mind, the Church of Ireland Theological Institute recently facilitated (through the Lay Training Department,) a short residential on “Staying in touch with your Vocation” led by Bishop Richard Henderson.
Around 15 Diocesan Readers from across the Church gathered to hear Bishop Richard explore the above theme through the following headings…
1. Staying in touch with your vocation: Location
2. Staying in touch with your vocation: Aspiration and Desperation
3. Staying in touch with your vocation: Realisation
The input from the Bishop, space to pray and reflect and meet Readers from other Dioceses’ was greatly appreciated by those who attended. One participant wrote afterwards,
“I just wanted to thank you for organising this retreat and congratulate you on how well it went. Please also pass on my thanks to Bishop Richard. It was my first time visiting the theological institute and that made me feel a wee bit more of the Church of Ireland family!”
The Lay Training Department at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute envisages offering further opportunities across 2014/2015 for Diocesan Readers.
